The LORD Is

THE LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

THE lord is my shepherd. David understood the concept of “shepherd” because he had experience what it was like to be a shepherd. He understood the responsibilities and had on many occasions defended, protected and provided for the sheep under his care.

The lord IS my shepherd. I shall not want. This statement implies complete absolute trust, reliance and faith. There are no questions about it the lord has all power, dominion, authority and responsibility for my life. He ensures that every need in my life is met in supernatural abundance. I do not lack or go without because he knows the things I have need of and supplies me out of his rich treasures.

HE maketh me to lie down in green pastures. When you see “eth” at the end of a word, it means continually. He continually causes me to lie down i.e. to rest, to be at ease in green pastures or a place of fulfillment. The green pastures represent provision to sustain the life of the sheep. He leadeth me beside the still waters. He continually leads me beside the still waters. The still waters i.e. peaceful, restful; without turmoil. Water represents the spirit of God. The shepherd feeds us (bread of life) and quenches our thirst (living waters)

HE restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. God gives back to me the things that was lost, taken or stolen from me. He continually directs me to walk in righteousness because I represent him and he is righteous. For his name sake means, his purpose is to bring glory to his name. God reputation is on the line. He does it so his power may be known among men.

YEA, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. I walk through, I will not be left in the valley nor will I abide in the valley but I walk THROUGH the valley. The valleys represent the low places, the hard places, and the place of testing in my life. The shadow of death i.e. it is not real. I will not die in the valley. I will not fear evil because my lord who has authority, dominion and responsibility for my life is with me thus I have comfort and assurance that all is well.

THOU preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. The lord sits me down at a table that he has made ready for me. I am the honored guest. The lord has summoned all of my enemies to be present. Those that wished evil on me, who misused, abused, took advantage of, laughed, belittled and scorned me. This is not of my doing nor am I in charge of who has been summoned. They will witness his love and favor on me as GOD himself anoint my head with oil, oil representing his spirit, joy, his ability and his power on, in, over, through my life. My cup runneth over, cup represents my heart. My heart is full of joy, overwhelmed and overflowing with love, gratitude and humility.

SURELY, goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. Absolutely, positively without a doubt, goodness i.e. all that is good, prosperity, beneficial and mercy (receiving what I do not even deserve nor qualified for). Goodness and mercy shall follow me i.e. be behind me, goes everywhere I go all the days of my life and when my physical life comes to its conclusion I will live in the presence of my lord for eternity.

SPEAK THE ANSWER NOT THE PROBLEM. THE ANSWER IS THE WORD OF GOD. Heavenly father, I confess with my mouth and believe in my heart that you are my Lord and the good shepherd in my life. I release all that I am and I rest in complete confidence that you are in charge of my life. I do not fret about the times that I am living in, the economic situation and the cares of this world because I am confident in your ability to be I AM THAT I AM in my life. I give you honor, praise and glory for you sustain me, give me peace that passes understanding, guide, leads and directs me into paths of righteousness for your name sake. You are the bread of life and living waters that I must have to survive. As the hart pants after the water, so my soul pants after you. My heart does not fail me because of fear of what man can do to me for I understand that no weapon shall prevail against me. I do not worry about my enemies because you know who they are and you put your stamp of approval upon my life and show them how much you love me. Your love surrounds me, sustains me, upholds me, and encloses me. You wrap me in your loving arms. You love me; therefore, all that is good, beneficial and cause me to prosper belongs to me. I am a recipient of your mercy. Eternal happiness and joy is mine. Thank you father for loving me and I submit and give myself to you that you may be LORD OF LORD in my life.
