On Saturday May 24th the American Red Cross launches its "100 Days of Summer. 100 Days of Hope" blood donation campaign. The donation drive ends on September 1st.

During the summer fewer people donate blood and this can cause blood shortages. According to WIVB, "about two fewer donors give blood at each Red Cross blood drive than what patients need."

According to the Red Cross, "1 pint of blood can save up to 3 lives."

The following infographic shows that one person injured seriously in a car wreck, may need 100 pints of blood.

Are you a blood donor? Maybe it is a good time to start.
